DFA GREY Consulting is seeking Southeast Asian Geopolitical Consultant to join our team. DFA GREY Consulting is an emerging consulting corporation. Our mission is to help clients navigate in a complex world and get their message across. We combine geopolitical research, analysis and engagement with policymakers across the world in order to help client know better about the crisis situations faced and have smart investment opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor developments related to conflicts in the Indo-Pacific region, trade wars and tariff policies, cross-strait tensions, and other international hot-button issues.
  • Conduct in-depth geopolitical and geoeconomic analyses of Southeast Asian countries (especially Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines) and the region as a whole.
  • Monitoring and interpreting geopolitical developments across Southeast Asia (including national politics, security and defence, economics, infrastructure, trade and regional institutions).
  • Using various sources to conduct research on any concerned topics, and to elaborate convincing insight with reliable sources.
  • Leverage existing research and resources to draw key insights aimed at informing broader strategy.
  • Perform quality control including data accuracy, proofreading.
Qualification for ideal candidates
  • Experience working within or closely analysing Southeast Asia—ideally including posts in a Southeast Asian public sector (Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Myanmar and so on) or in a leading regional think-tank/international organisation., international relations or a related field from a university or other institution of higher learning of recognized standing.
  • Deep understanding of geopolitical, Security or diplomatic policies, maritime security, trade/investment flows and institutional evolution is preferred.
  • A strong writer able to clearly frame issues.
  • Experience in public sector/security department is preferred.

We are seeking a seasoned expert deeply knowledgeable in Central Asian geopolitics to address the current complex and rapidly changing regional landscape, providing critical insights for our international strategic decision-making.

This position is remote, with preferred location in the Central Asian countries (Candidates based in Kazakhstan, the Tajikistan, or other Central Asian countries) are encouraged to apply.)

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and analyze real-time geopolitical dynamics in Central Asia, with a focus on Kazakhstan's political and economic development and its regional influence;
  • Provide in-depth interpretation of the evolving relations between Russia and Central Asian countries, particularly their foreign policy adjustments amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict;
  • Track and analyze strategic competition and cooperation among major powers (China, Russia, US) in the Central Asian region;
  • Assess the progress of the Belt and Road Initiative's implementation in Central Asia and Kazakhstan's pivotal role as a key hub;
  • Offer expert analysis on the impact of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) expansion and institutional reforms on the Central Asian geopolitical landscape;
  • Provide risk assessments on major issues including Caspian Sea energy development and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route
Qualifications Required
  • Minimum 2 years of professional research or practical experience in Central Asian geopolitics;
  • Public Sector work experience in Central Asian countries (particularly Kazakhstan), or policy research experience in internationally renowned Central Asian research institutions (such as Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Central Asia-Caucasus Institute at Johns Hopkins University);
  • Familiarity with Kazakhstan's political transition process and its "multi-vector diplomacy" practice;
  • Thorough understanding of the historical context and contemporary developments of major power competition in Central Asia;
  • Excellent policy analysis skills and strong written communication abilities in English.
Preferred
  • Experience collaborating with governmental institutions in Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries;
  • Familiarity with regional mechanisms such as the SCO and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO);
  • Background in energy geopolitics or infrastructure connectivity project research;
  • Proficiency in Russian or other Central Asian languages.

  • Monitor and analyze macroeconomic policies, fiscal & monetary policies, foreign trade & investment regulations, and industrial development plans in key Southeast Asian countries, with a primary focus on Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines.
  • Conduct in-depth tracking of economic development strategies (e.g., vision plans to 2030), foreign investment incentive policies, and compliance regulatory developments in Southeast Asian nations like Vietnam and Thailand, providing timely risk assessments and opportunity insights.
  • Research the positioning and opportunities for Southeast Asian countries (with a core focus on Vietnam) in key sectors such as manufacturing, new energy, and the digital economy, within the context of evolving China-US economic relations and global supply chain restructuring.
  • Provide forward-looking assessments on areas including trade dynamics, investment flows, industrial strategy, digital economy regulation, and regional integration initiatives.
  • Produce high-quality, actionable research reports, policy briefs, and customized advisory deliverables to support clients' market entry, investment decisions, and risk management.
Required Qualifications
  • Direct professional experience working within a Southeast Asian Public Sector (e.g., ministry, central bank, economic agency) or at a leading regional think tank focused on economic/policy research.
  • Deep understanding and practical experience with the political economy of Southeast Asian countries; familiarity with governmental processes and policy-making logic is highly preferred.

  • Proficiency in a local Southeast Asian language (e.g., Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian).

We are particularly seeking candidates with prior experience working in governmental institutions of Central Asian countries or those who have held senior analytical roles at leading regional think tanks.

This role requires both professional economic insight and practical understanding of how policies are formulated, negotiated, and implemented within the diverse political and institutional environments of Central Asia.

Position Overview

The Economic Policy Analyst will be responsible for delivering research and strategic assessments covering economic reforms, fiscal and regulatory developments, investment trends, and political-economic risks in Central Asia. Your analysis will support public sector, private sector, and multilateral clients in navigating regional reforms and long-term strategic trends.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor macroeconomic, fiscal, and regulatory developments across the five Central Asian countries, with a focus on Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
  • Analyze regional trends, including energy transition, industrial diversification, trade and investment flows, and infrastructure strategies.
  • Prepare policy briefs, country assessments, and executive-level presentations.
  • Establish and expand networks with government officials, think tank experts, business leaders, and academic researchers.
  • Contribute to scenario planning, risk assessments, and market analysis.
  • Advise clients on how policy changes may impact the investment environment, regulatory risks, and regional opportunities.
Required Qualifications
  • Professional experience working in a Central Asian Public Sector (ministry, central bank, economic agency) or at a leading regional think tank focused on policy/economic research (e.g., Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies, Center for Economic Research of Uzbekistan).
  • Familiarity with the economic governance systems and policy-making processes of Central Asian countries, particularly with investment policies and regulatory environments in Kazakhstan.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex economic and policy dynamics into clear, actionable insights.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently and work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • A professional network in Central Asia is highly preferred.
